“What a great piece of work this is.” - Craig Norris, CBC KW
Socially-charged Afro-Latin + Caribbean soul flirts with jazz. Folk Heart.
Joni NehRita invites listeners to feel, move and think moreShe has a gift for writing catchy melodies dressed in jazzy chords that feel ready to hit the beach- south of the border, of course! This knack for sunshiny melodies and infectious grooves help her message of equity, being the change and the cultivation of compassion to be received like a nice, cool drink on a sweltering day.
The Jamaican-Canadian multi-instrumentalist is no stranger to the stage- she has been fortunate enough to have played on stages around the globe including, North America, Australia, Europe and The Middle East. As Raji Sohal of the CBC said, “I can attest that in live performance her voice and stage presence are stellar and come off as endearingly natural.”
“Love Is Love- what an absolutely powerful & fulfilling song to beautify my show.” - Paul Corby- Regent Radio
Love & Protest
Love & Protest is a concept album that explores the juxtaposition between love being "The Answer" and anger being the fuel to fight for change. It is an electro-acoustic fusion of finely crafted songs sun-drenched in rich vocal textures & Afro-Caribbean/Brazilian rhythms. It marks new territory for NehRita as she switches to guitar from keyboards as the main harmonic instrument, in addition to mixing the album herself. Lyrically, it questions, provokes & ultimately aims to inspire each of us to take ownership of the part we play in creating a more equitable & compassionate world for future generations.
