Funds raised from this event will support the refugee sponsorship of a young Somali woman living in Kenya named Amina Badal Hassan. Amina was born in Mogadishu, but like many girls in Somalia, was never given a formal education. She lost her father at six, and was married off to an old man at age 14. After running away from her family, she was held prisoner by a militia group for months, and eventually claimed UNHCR status in Uganda, where she languished for six years in a refugee camp. Basically orphaned, our long-term goal is to bring her to Canada to settle and start her life over
