BLM Guelph- Make a Joyful Noise

Zoom

Hey everyone! Black Lives Matter Guelph is so excited to be hosting our first event, Make A Joyful Noise!

We believe the Black experience is one of JOY! We wanted to create a safe Black space where Black artists can come together and share their talents, histories, and truths. Black art and expression is an incredible tool for advocacy and activism and it is imperative that we amplify the voices of our Black community.

It is important that we ensure Black artists are taken care of so 85% of the ticket sales/donations will go towards our wonderful artists! The remaining 15% of the proceeds will go towards 1492 Land Back Lane. This donation is in solidarity with the Indigenous peoples who were colonized on the land in which we all reside. We believe in action-based land acknowledgments.

Make A Joyful Noise has five exciting and liberating artists from the Guelph and Kitchener/Waterloo region: Emmitt Leacock, Jahshona, Tania Joy, SabSpoke, and Joni NehRita. Join us on May 29th, 2021 at 7:00 PM to immerse yourself in a celebration and amplification of local Black voices.

F*ck Perfect ~8 Week Workshop

Fuck Perfect is an 8-week online workshop that is FREE to attend. During the workshop we will look at all the tricky ways perfectionism shows up in our lives, and take inspired and creative risks together through art-making, discussion, and self-reflection.

Over the 8 weeks we will meet twice a week. We will explore different art mediums with local artists, meet new friends, and create together!

When we start to take the power away from perfectionism, we help to change the harmful power structures of white supremacy. This gives us the opportunity to create the kinds of communities where everyone's voice is heard (it is ok if this brings up a lot of questions: if you do not know what this means, talk to us, we care deeply about this stuff and love learning together).

We are holding spaces for people who self-identify as: Black, Indigenous, Person Of Colour (BIPOC), LGBTQ2I+, newcomers, people struggling with mental health and/or addictions, and/or people with visible and invisible disabilities.

X-Camera Presents: Joni NehRita~ Better Me: Songs For Community

X-CAMERA- An Experimental Learning Circle Speakers Series

Joni NehRita: Better Me ~ Songs For Community

The late, great Nina Simone says an artist's duty is to reflect the times. Vladmir Mayakovsky says, "Art is not a mirror held up to society, but a hammer with which to shape it".

This talk will explore Joni's in-the-works project, called "Better Me ~ Songs For Community" which feature 10 new original songs that aim to: build resilience, challenge the status quo, promote diverse experiences, normalize speaking about sensitive topics, cultivate empathy, encourage critical thinking and provoke conversations on how to build a more equitable world. By exploring these themes, we may change our inner worlds. By changing our inner world, we may begin to influence, and therefore change the world around us.

Each person has power that we mostly drift through life unaware of. How we use our voices and energy has an impact on our communities, families and workplaces. If we are each harnessing our own power and will for the greater good, and meeting with others to sing and discuss these ideas, positive outcomes will (hopefully) "spill over" as a result. Good work takes time, so let's begin.

Living Room Mini-Concert

Guelph, ON

A little late to the party, but that's ok! This will be my first online concert live! I've done a lot of recorded performances during the pandemic that were hosted on the sites of whomever was hiring me, but this one will be live. *This mini-concert is open to current subscribers to my patron space as a way of saying thank you! It will also hopefully put my mind at ease- I've been anxious about doing live stream concerts for too many reasons to list here. But this will be a nice, intimate introduction!

To become a Patron, click on the "Subscribe" tab on my website's menu. To register for the event, email: info@luvsum-music.com & you will be sent the Zoom link.
